Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker are Blink 182, and from 1998 to 2004 they hit our chart 5 times including 3 TOP 5 hits. This was the biggest of them all. It spent 33 weeks on our chart including 16 weeks in a row in our TOP 10. It was the # 6 hit overall in 2000. Say it ain't so. I will not go. Turn the lights off. Carry me home.

Citizen King came out of nowhere in 1999, and then they disappeared into oblivion shortly after their one hit. Their U.S. TOP 25 hit spent nearly 5 months on the national pop chart, and it spent 3 weeks at # 1 on our chart in August 1999. It was the # 24 hit of the entire year on our chart.

172491999Gangster Tripping
This techno tune shot straight-in to our chart at # 1 at the end of January 1999. It actually kicked-off 10 weeks in a row of pure dance music at the top of our pop chart at the time. Fatboy Slim AKA Norman Cook was once one of the four Housemartins - a pop band that scored a string of hits in 1986 and 1987 in the U.K. and on our chart when we were based in Gloucestershire England.

303231999 & 2000Hanginaround
This is Counting Crows' 3RD biggest hit to date. The're most remembered for their 1994 debut smash "Mr. Jones". They also scored big 3 years later in 1997 with "A Long December". 3 years later in 2000 "Hanginaround" became a TOP 30 hit for the San Francisco based band led by Adam Duritz. It peaked at # 30 during the very first week of January 2000 here on our chart.

23310221999 & 2000Hey Leonardo (She Likes Me For Me)
Blessid Union Of Souls hit our chart with 7 songs from 1995 to 2000. "Let Me Be The One" (# 10), "Oh Virginia" (# 26), "All Along (I Wanted You)" (# 13), "I Wanna Be There" (# 4), "Light In Your Eyes" (# 29), and "Standing At The Edge Of The Earth"
(# 25). "Hey Leonardo ..." was their 6TH entry onto our chart, and it was by far their biggest smash ever. It spent 33 weeks in a row on our chart including 24 weeks in our TOP 10. It's one of the biggest hits in our chart's history !

Long before Mad'House remade over a dozen classic Madonna tunes from the '80s and '90s The Tamperer Featuring Maya kinda sorta remade "Material Girl". They took the melody, but they left the words behind. A lot of British music fans took the advice back in 1999 (it hit # 3 on the U.K. chart), so hopefully their lives are better now.

1175061999I Want It That Way
The Backstreet Boys scored 13 TOP 40 hits from 1997 to 2001 - 9 ballads and 4 harder songs. They defined the boy band revolution of the late-1990s when hit music radio was totally popping. This was their 6TH hit - and 2ND # 1 smash here on our chart. This is my favourite Backstreet Boys song of all time.

3245131999Kiss Me
Sixpence None The Richer hailed from Austin Texas, and they were led by Leigh Nash on lead vocals. This track was featured in the Freddie Prinze Jr. / Rachael Leigh Cook flick "She's All That" which I saw at the movie theatre on February 07th 1999. It was its inclusion in the movie that propelled it to hit music stardom, and it eventually skyrocketed to # 2 on the U.S. pop chart. It spent 24 weeks here on our own pop chart, and it finished 1999 as the # 25 smash of the entire year.

------1999Magic Carpet Ride
The soundtrack to the 1999 movie "Go" produced a lot of great hits - and MASSIVE Memories. Len's "Steal My Sunshine" and Fatboy Slim's "Gangster Tripping" (both # 1 songs on our chart) were inducted into the memories early on, and now it's time for this 1999 techno remix (that never charted) of the 1968 pop smash. It's been featured countless times in recent television commercials.

1298291999 & 2000Mambo No. 5
If 1999 had an official anthem to symbolize the excitement that was generated as we approached Y2K and the new millennium then this would have to be it. This was an instant out-of-the-box International pop smash that had the whole world jumping up and down and moving all around. We shook our head to the sound, and we put our hands on the ground. We took one step left and one step right - one to the front and one to the side. We clapped our hands once and clapped our hands twice. We did it right !

Back in 1999 Dr. Dre introduced Slim Shady to the world. Eminem's first single debuted at # 27 on our hit music chart in April 1999. It peaked at # 25 in its second week. Subsequent singles from Eminem include "Forgot About Dre" (# 8 in 2000), "The Real Slim Shady" (# 9 in 2000), "The Way I Am" (# 35 in 2000), "Without Me" (# 12 in 2002), "Cleanin' Out My Closet" (# 26 in 2002), and the Academy Award winning "Lose Yourself" (# 16 in 2002).

14212031999 & 2000Steal My Sunshine
It accumulated over 1,200 chart points over the span of 42 weeks, and it spent 36 out of its 42 weeks in the TOP 20. It was also in the TOP 10 for 19 weeks, the TOP 5 for 12 weeks, and the TOP 3 for 7 weeks. The melody of this sunny and breezy tune samples a portion of the 1976 disco smash "More, More, More".

1195971999Summergirls
New Kids On The Block had a bunch of hits, and so did LFO a decade later. Rich Cronin, Brad Fischetti, and Devin Lima were the 2ND incarnation of LFO, and they got it done during the Backstreet Boys / 'N Sync teen-pop era a full decade after the New Kids era. This # 1 smash spent 19 weeks on our chart, and it finished 1999 as the # 17 smash of the year overall.

292991999Take My Love
Eurodance continued its gradual fade-out during the late-1990s, as it had trouble competing with the latest teen-pop invasion that had begun a couple of years earlier and was now peaking. But this one managed to squeeze itself onto the pop chart amongst all of the bubblegum, as it reached # 2 for a couple of weeks. It spent 8 out of its 9 weeks in the TOP 10.
The KromoZone Project
4257151999That Don't Impress Me Much
Country superstar Shania scored 5 pop hits in a row on our chart in 1998 and 1999. And we're talking long-running chart hits such as "You're Still The One" (30 weeks), and "From This Moment On" (21 weeks). She followed-up those 2 hits with a 3RD one that became the biggest hit of them all here on our chart. It impressed me much when it spent 25 weeks with us - and all but one of those weeks were in the top half (TOP 20) of our chart. It was our 9TH biggest hit of 1999.
Shania Twain
1174901999The Hardest Thing
The Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync were at the top of their pop game from 1997 to 2001. If they held the gold and silver medals of the boy band revolution of the time then 98 Degrees held the bronze. 8 of their hits made it onto our chart back then. 2 of them made it onto our TOP 5 including their long-running (31-week) smash "Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)". This was their lone # 1 smash on our chart.
98 Degrees
1247931999We Like To Party
Vengaboys are no longer with us, and even their web site is now gone, but they sure left us with a couple of years of pop-dance fun. This was their 2ND (and by far) their biggest smash, as it kept the party going for 24 weeks in 1999. It was the # 7 smash of the entire year !
