------1990 & 1991Been Caught Stealing
This funky and frenetic punk rock track was MASSIVE at U.S. Modern Rock radio stations towards the end of 1990 and into 1991. Its video was huge on MTV. It spent 4 non-consecutive weeks as the most-played track at that format. It was from the 1990 album "Ritual De Lo Habitual". MASSIVE Memory 'Fun Fact' - Guitarist Dave Navarro was born just 2 days after Your's Truly on June 07th 1967.
Jane's Addiction
1186201990Can't Stop Fallin' Into Love
This is one of my all-time favourite songs in modern hit music history. It spent 18 weeks here on our chart, and it finished out the year as the # 8 song of 1990. It was Cheap Trick's 4TH highest-charting hit on the U.S. pop chart right behind "The Flame" and "Don't Be Cruel" in 1988 and "I Want You To Want Me" in 1979.
Cheap Trick

Flashback to our Sunday September 16th 1990 original edition of this publication when our lyric of the week was this one - Swingin' in the bathroom. Swingin' on the floor. Swingin' so hard. Forgot to lock the door. In walks her daddy standin' six-foot-four. Said you ain't gonna swing with my daughter no more.

If you do a Find (on this page) of the phrase 'Summer Of 1990' you'll find numerous references to it. It's because it was the summer of my life. It's the most memorable summer I've ever experienced. It was hot. It was wild. It was crazy. It was Panama City Beach. This rockin' smash was one of many theme songs for me during that nutty time.
Billy Idol
8113051990Days Like These
Asia was an all-star rock band from the U.K. Their breakthrough smash in the U.S. came in 1982 when "Heat Of The Moment" hit # 4 on the national pop chart and its video was in heavy rotation for awhile on MTV. It's still a frequently-played filler track at arena and stadium sporting events. This was their last U.S. hit 8 years later in 1990. It hit # 2 on the national rock chart, and it spent 7 weeks in our rockin' TOP 10 at the time.

1225941990Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)
This is one of my all-time favourite songs in modern hit music history. It is the definitive song that represents the long hot Summer Of 1990 and the several weeks that I spent in Panama City Beach - long before it became the Spring Break headquarters of North America. I love everything about this song - the melody, the lyrics, the feel, and the MASSIVE memories that go along with it !
Mötley Crüe
4173691990Don't Wanna Fall In Love
Vivid images of the world in 1990 flash through my mind whenever I hear this gold smash from the year that was. Canadian Jane Child was barely 21 years old when this hit and accompanying video dominated the airwaves. Check out Jane's official web site for complete MP3s, lyrics, and videos of some of her songs including this smash.
Jane Child
6183841990Enjoy The Silence
This new wave dance tune was the signature dance song of the Summer Of 1990 as far as I'm concerned. It reminds me of several weeks of fun in the Panama City Beach sun during that long hot summer. It spent 18 non-consecutive weeks on this chart during 3 seperate chart runs. It peaked at # 6 in July 1990.
Depeche Mode
4215331990Epic
For about 5 months in 1990 our chart was more of an active rock chart rather than a mainstream pop chart. We didn't officially flip our format back then. Hard rock music sort of invaded our chart at the time. This metal and rap hit was at the centerpiece of the invasion. It spent 12 weeks in a row in our TOP 10. I think it's one of the greatest hard rock songs of all-time !
Faith No More
8194271990 & 1991Freedom
It was on our chart from the end of November 1990 to the end of July 1991, but Operation Desert Storm at the beginning of 1991 actually curtailed its chart life and chart success as we were on temporary hiatus during much of the war when it would have naturally peaked. It still spent 19 non-consecutive weeks with us, and it peaked at # 8 quite late in its life. It also peaked at # 8 on the U.S. pop chart. Its controversial video pretty much undid everything that the video for "Faith" in 1987 did.
George Michael
1122801990Get Up! (Before The Night Is Over)
This was the 2ND of 3 U.S. TOP 10 hits for Technotronic during the very early-1990s. It spent 2 weeks at # 1 in April 1990 here on our chart. Believe it or not Technotronic have remained active in their native Belgium ever since their debut near the end of 1989. You can review their entire 13-year history including a complete singles and albums discography at www.danceartistinfo.com/technotr.htm.

Luther Vandross only lived for 54 years. He was born in the Bronx New York on April 20th 1951, and he died on July 01st 2005. He had suffered a serious stroke more than two years earlier which he never fully recovered from. The singer / songwriter / producer enjoyed his greatest personal success during the early-1990s. This was his most memorable hit, and the longest-running hit of his career. It spent over 6 months on the U.S. pop chart. It won the 1990 Grammy Award for Best Male R & B Vocal Performance.

Damn Yankees were a true superstar power rock group that consisted of the legendary Ted Nugent, Tommy Shaw from Styx, Jack Blades from Night Ranger, and drummer Michael Cartellone (now with Lynyrd Skynyrd). In 1990 they released a self-titled album that included this gold-certified U.S. pop smash - one of my favourite rock songs of all-time. They released a 2ND album in 1992 - "Don't Tread" - that included two more rockin' hits - "Where You Goin' Now" and "Silence Is Broken".

1247381990 & 1991(I Can't Live Without Your) Love And Affection
Identical twins Matthew and Gunnar Nelson are the same age as me. From July 1990 to September 1991 they dominated U.S. hit music charts and radio station playlists with 4 MASSIVE hit singles from their debut album "After The Rain". This debut smash entered our own chart during the final week of July 1990, and it hit # 1 in its 5TH week on the chart. It remained on our chart through the end of 1990, and it finished the year as the overall # 3 smash. It's one of my favourite songs of all time !
Nelson
3143771990 & 1991Ice Ice Baby
Take heed 'cause he's a lyrical poet. Miami's on the scene just in case you didn't know it. His town that created all the bass sound. Enough to shake and kick holes in the ground. Robert Van Winkle was born in Miami Lakes Florida in 1968, and he rose to prominence as Vanilla Ice at the age of 22. His debut smash shocked the hit music charts and soared all the way to the top in November 1990. Ever since his 15 minutes of fame ran out he's pretty much been mocked as a one-hit-wonder, a joke, and even a fake. I say that he played a major role in legitimizing rap music into the mainstream in 1990.
Vanilla Ice
1122791990I'll Be Your Everything
19-year-old Tommy Page scored a # 1 smash for 2 weeks here on our chart, and for 1 week on the U.S. pop chart with this ballad. Tommy wrote it with New Kids On The Block members Jordan Knight and Danny Wood who also provided back-up vocals on it with fellow New Kidder Donnie Wahlberg. Tommy also opened for the New Kids on their MASSIVE "Step By Step" tour. Tommy's pop success here in the U.S. was very short-lived, but it continued on through much of the 1990s in Asia where he was pretty much elevated to superstar status - particularly in Japan.

Skid Row formed in 1986 during the 'hair metal' revolution on the radio. Sebastian Bach was the well-known lead singer of the band. He was well-known for his wild antics. Their self-titled multi-platinum album produced two MASSIVE hits - "18 And Life" and this smash from the early part of 1990. Skid Row is still actively performing today with their two founding members Bassist Rachel Bolan and Guitarist Dave 'The Snake' Sabo. Longtime Guitarist Scotti Hill is also with them.
Skid Row
6164041990I Wanna Be Rich
This tune was a # 2 smash nationwide in 1990, and it was particularly MASSIVE here in South Florida. Y-100 was hooked on it during much of the year, and its 16 weeks on our chart is not reflective of its actual radio airplay. This was a favourite song to hum or sing while waiting in line on a Saturday night at any given convenience store to purchase Florida lottery tickets !
Calloway
7113381990Kiss This Thing Goodbye
Justin Currie and Iain Harvie co-founded Del Amitri as teenagers in 1981. Andy Alston joined in 1989. The three of them are still together today. David Cummings and Brian McDermott were also part of the band in 1989 when they recorded tracks for their album "Waking Hours". It included this hit that was hot during the Summer Of 1990. It spent 8 weeks in a row in our TOP 10, and it was our # 34 hit overall in 1990.
Del Amitri
1257541990 & 1991Love Will Never Do (Without You)
Janet's 1989 CD "Rhythm Nation 1814" was MASSIVE, as 8 TOP 5 singles were borne from it including 4 U.S. # 1 smash hits. The 7TH single - and 4TH # 1 - was this one, and to this day it is still my all-time favourite Janet Jackson song of all time. It hit # 1 in only its 2ND week on our chart in December 1990, and it remained with us clear through the Summer Of 1991 for a total of 25 weeks on the chart.
Janet Jackson
791721990 & 1991More Than Words Can Say
Freddy Curci and Steve DeMarchi (formerly of Sheriff) were amazed at the long-delayed success of "When I'm With You", so they joined forces with three former members of Heart to recreate the magic. In 1990 they released a self-titled album featuring this single, and it soared all the way to # 2 on the U.S. pop chart.
Alias
4121991990My Kinda Girl
It's one of my favourite Babyface songs ever. Although it was a disappointment on the U.S. pop chart it did hit # 4 on our chart. It finished the year as the # 82 song overall in 1990. It was the party anthem on Panama City Beach during the wild and crazy Summer Of 1990. Long live Spinnaker Beach Club and Club La Vela !
Babyface
2123091990Pure
This is another one of those breezy pop gems from an era long gone by. It brings back great memories for me from the long hot Summer Of 1990. Everyone seems to have one of those memorable times and places from their storied past. It's a time that you'll probably never forget for the rest of your life. It's a place that you wish you could visit again, but you know that it'll never be the same as the first time. Panama City Beach during the Summer Of 1990 will always be that special "pure and simple" place for me.
Lightning Seeds
1319741990Roam
It was one of our biggest hits during the original 7-year run of our chart. It entered our chart during the very 1ST weekend of January 1990, and it stayed on with us for over 7 months. Its 31 weeks on our chart included 22 weeks in the TOP 10, 19 weeks in the TOP 5, 11 weeks in the TOP 3, and 6 weeks at # 1 or # 2. No wonder it was our # 1 smash overall in 1990 !
The B-52s
1246571990Room At The Top
Adam Ant was an original late-1970s U.K. punk rocker. By the time the 1990s hit he had evolved into a solid pop musician. He released his "Manners And Physique" album in 1990 which included this HUGE smash on both sides of the Atlantic. It enjoyed its greatest chart success on our chart where it was our longest-running # 1 smash (out of 26) in 1990. It's one of my favourite songs of all-time !

124911990Saturday Night
30 years ago at the start of 1976 The Bay City Rollers out of Edinburgh Scotland scored a U.S. # 1 gold smash with this fun pre-disco hit all about that party night better known as 'S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT !'. They even performed it LIVE on a show called "Saturday Night Live With Howard Cosell" on ABC-TV. Fast forward to that wild and crazy Summer Of 1990 when it made a brief appearance on our chart that is still one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in our history.

3122901990She Ain't Worth It
During the long hot Summer Of 1990 I did a lot of driving all over the southeastern U.S. in my relatively new red 1989 Geo Spectrum. I drove nearly 1,700 miles in July over a two-week time-span from Homestead to Panama City and back. The following month in August I drove over 2,400 miles over a 10-day time-span from Homestead to Tampa to Panama City to Fort Walton Beach to Crestview to Montgomery (Alabama) to Huntsville to Orlando and then back to Homestead. During both road trips this song was cranked up loud on the radio !
Glenn Medeiros Ft. Bobby Brown
1112751990 & 1991So Hard
The Pet Shop Boys are one of my favourite acts of all time. By the time 1990 rolled around their mainstream popularity here in the U.S. had already begun to fade away, but they continued to crank out the hits well into the '90s in their native U.K. This was their 8TH U.K. TOP 5 smash in 5 years.
The Pet Shop Boys
1195531990 & 1991The End Of The Innocence
Bruce Hornsby co-wrote and co-produced this song, and he also performed on piano. It was the first single and title track to Don Henley's June 1989 CD that spawned 5 hit singles well into the first few months of 1991 including "The Last Worthless Evening", "The Heart Of The Matter", "How Bad Do You Want It ?", and "New York Minute". It was in January and February 1991 when I really discovered and appreciated this album. I was in the middle of the Saudi Arabian desert serving in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and it kept me company and gave me comfort during those 64 days of uncertainty. I just knew that everything would turn out just fine with Don Henley in my headphones.

1196201990Unskinny Bop
Poison scored a long string of hits for four years from 1987 to 1991 including some of my favourites - "Nothin' But A Good Time", "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", "Something To Believe In", "Ride The Wind", and "Life Goes On". But nothing beats the groove, guitar riff, and suggestive lyrics of this Summer Of 1990 party anthem that kicked-off their "Flesh & Blood" album.
